Kenya, for wildlife enthusiasts
Couples who want to live their African safari fantasy, a trip to Masai Mara in Kenya is hard to beat. The place boasts stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife and unmatched hospitality. “The magic unfolds as soon as you land. While the Great Migration is one of the most extraordinary travel experiences, you can visit the East African country throughout the year to spot lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras and other wildlife on safari,” says Pooja Wadhwa of Avant Garde Consulting. Couples, who have more than a week, must visit Nairobi or venture out to Lamu Island.
When to go
The dry seasons—June through October and December through February—are highly recommended. July through September is great to witness the Great Migration.
Where to stay
To immerse yourself in unforgettable safari hospitality and wildlife guiding, book Mara Plains Camp. Located within the 35,000-acre Olare Motorogi Conservancy, it borders the northern edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve. Under the Great Plains Conservation Réserve-Collection, this Relais & Chateaux camp sleeps 14 guests in its classic colonial and campaign-style suites. JW Marriott Masai Mara Safari Lodge marks the group's entry into the safari scene, bringing with it the signature top-tier Marriott service and hospitality. Discover 20 luxurious suites perched on the bushy banks of the Masai Mara's Talek River, each featuring a safari-chic design and equipped with modern amenities. “Ol Donyo Lodge, between Tsavo and Amboseli National Parks in the Chyulu Hills region of Kenya, is a great choice too,” says Wadhwa.
What to do
Spot the Big Five—lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo and rhinos—on daily game drives. In addition, keep an eye out for other wildlife and different species of birds. Enjoy sundowners at your camp and bush breakfasts. Take a hot air balloon ride to view wildlife. Learn about the indigenous Maasai culture with a trip to a local village.
Finland, for nature buffs
The happiest country in the world charms with Nordic history, food and adventure. Every season brings with it a different experience. Helsinki, Finland’s picturesque capital, brags a roster of museums, architectural marvels and innovative eateries. “The shining star is Rovaniemi—a city that’s incredible all-year-round. Finnish summer is apt to experience the Midnight Sun. For those who venture north of the Arctic Circle, the sun does not set at all from May to August. “It’s the most incredible place to chase the Northern Lights in the winter,” says Parthip Thyagarajan, a thought-leader in the wedding industry.
When to go
Summer, between May to August or winter, between November to March.
Where to stay
Finland's design-conscious capital has a burgeoning hotel scene. Hotel St. George is the capital’s most stylish and luxurious property. Expect late-19th-century classical opulence at Hotel Kämp that has played host to celebrities such as Madonna, Shakira, Whitney Houston, Elton John, Backstreet Boys and Bruce Springsteen among many others. In Lapland, plan your visit around lodging in the Santa’s Igloos Arctic Circle. Just a few metres away from the Santa Claus Village, are 71 luxurious, spacious glass igloos.
What to do
“Chase the Northern Lights in Lapland. Go skiing or dog sledging, race rally cars through the Arctic and visit Santa Claus’ home in Rovaniemi. A trip to Helsinki isn’t complete without a Finnish sauna. Visit the Guggenheim Museum. Other attractions include Temppeliaukio Church, Rock Church and Oodi library. Relish traditional Nordic cuisine,” says Thyagarajan.
Rajasthan, for glampers
“Over the years, Rajasthan has become a top destination to tie the knot. From Priyanka Chopra to Parineeti Chopra, several A-listers have also chosen one of the many magnificent palaces here for their special day. Travellers flock to the Northwest Indian state for its rustic villages, ancient palaces, culinary delights and golden sand. But beyond bucket-list tourist attractions, charming cities and shopping spots, Rajasthan is replete with the best glamping properties the world has to offer. Think luxury amenities, warm hospitality and the most romantic experiences,” says Thyagarajan.

“Aman-i-Khás is a serene tented camp on the edge of Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan. It is an Aman property, which means you experience the essence of the hospitality group’s philosophy. The 10 accommodations, showcasing Mughal/British colonial style, offer luxury and privacy. SUJÁN JAWAI in Bisalpur guarantees unforgettable days—wildlife adventures, breakfasts in the bush and delicious dinners under starry skies,” says Thyagarajan. SUJÁN The Serai in Jaisalmer is another spectacular option. Set on a 100-acre private estate of indigenous desert scrub, it features luxurious tents, a serene spa, and exquisite culinary delights.

Rome, for the hopeless romantics
If you’re one to patronise big city life, the capital city of Italy should absolutely be on your itinerary. From museums to markets, Rome is home to a myriad historical, cultural and culinary gems. “The city is like a time capsule that takes you back 2,000 years in a flash,” says Wadhwa. Apart from being a treasure trove of artistic, archeological and architectural masterpieces, it is incredibly romantic. “It is also a great starting point for a multi-city European vacation. A trip here just to indulge in pasta, pizza and gelato would be worth your while.”
When to go
May through mid-June or September through October.
Where to stay
“Villa Spalletti Trivelli, a century-old ancestral home converted into a luxury boutique hotel, is a sanctuary like no other. It is situated on one of the original Seven Hills of Rome and just minutes away from Trevi Fountain. Enjoy its inherited art and genuine antiques. Every room is the epitome of Classicism and comfort,” recommends Wadhwa. Six Senses Rome is a tranquil destination second to none, perfect for couples looking for romance and rejuvenation. The 15th-century Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini, a former noble palazzo, offers the most exquisite rooms envisioned by renowned Spanish designer Patricia Urquiol. The state-of-the-art spa is the main attraction, geared both for Italian-focused treatments and signature offerings.

A visit to the open-air Colosseum amphitheatre is non-negotiable. Even if you’re not religious, head to Vatican City, the smallest country in the world that’s set in Rome. Some other iconic spots are the Spanish Steps, St. Peter's Basilica, Piazza del Popolo, The Pantheon and Trevi Fountain.
Himachal Pradesh, for mountain lovers
If fresh air, exciting activities, cool climates, cosy evenings by a roaring fire, and delicious food define your perfect honeymoon, Shimla is unrivalled. Skip the crowded Mall Road and other tourist spots. “Shimla and Manali have lots of boutique hotels and homestays which offer experiential stays, other than cookie-cutter spaces for the most memorable honeymoon. There are plenty of local experiences and options to go for nearby day trips,” says Saloni Mahajan Narang, director, Paras Corporation, India and Middle East.
